Notice
The Society seeks mutually beneficial relationships, whether involving financial sponsorhip or otherwise, with a wide variety of bodies.
In January 2010 the Committee made a submission to the House of Commons' Select Committee on Science and Technology for use in their enquiry into science funding. The submission is a reorganized version of the comments on research impact assessment in the AISB response to the Hefce consultation on the REF. (House of Commons' Reponse as a Word document, House of Commons' Reponse as a PDF)
In December 2009 the Committee sent in a response to HEFCE's consultation on the REF. The response contains, in particular, strong statements concerning the currently proposed impact component of the REF and concerning the use of quantitative indicators to measure research. (HEFCE Respose as a Word document, HEFCE Response as a PDF)
In September 2009 the committee sent in a response to the Royal Society's consultation on "The Fruits of Curiosity: innovation and future sources of wealth" (PDF Fruits of Curiosity Call). It is partly about the role of and policies in support of curiosity-led scientific research, within which we are proud to include AISB-related research. Fruits of Curiosity response as a PDF. The Royal Society report, The Scientific Century: Securing our Future Prosperity, is now available.
The Committee would welcome hearing from any society members about the issues in the above responses (or other issues in the consultations but not addressed in the responses). Such views will not affect the consultations, in their current stages at least, but may inform future activities of the Committee.
And if you wish to take part in such responding activities in the future, please consider being nominated in future nomination rounds for committee members, or just tell us as we could use your help informally.
Mission Statement
The Society seeks mutually beneficial relationships, whether involving financial sponsorhip or otherwise, with a wide variety of bodies such as:
- companies interested in using or developing Artificial Intelligence or Cognitive Science
- publishers
- other learned societies
- professional organizations
- funding bodies (within or outside the UK)
- local or national government bodies.
This is in the service of developing the field of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science in (primarily) the UK, and ensuring that AI and Cognitive Science provide the greatest possible benefit to the nation as a whole.
An Invitation
If you represent another body we cordially invite you to propose how we might collaborate. The table below presents some suggestions. You may be able to suggest other possibilities. If you wish to advertise to our members please see our advertising rates.
If interested, please contact the SSAISB Chair
Entries in GREEN are things SSAISB can do for your organization.
Entries in BLUE are two-way things between SSAISB and your organization.
Entries in BROWN are things your organization can do for SSAISB.

Advertising Rates
Mailings reach our members and their colleagues, all of whom have a special interest in Artificial Intelligence and the Cognitive and Computing Sciences. This is an ideal target group for AI related publications and events which are relevant to both industry and academia.
Advertising within the AISB quarterly
The Quarterly is a newsletter which reaches all our members in hardcopy. Advertising in the quarterly is free for corporate and institutional members.
Deadlines for advertising copy for the AISBQ are the same as the Article Submission Deadlines for authors
A Half Page advert the Quarterly costs the following (the cost for a full page advert is double that for a half page):
Type of Organisation Cost (pounds sterling)
Commercial £50
Charitable £25
Inquiries about advertising in the quarterly should be directed to the editor (aisbqXX at aisb dot org dot uk where XX are the last two digits of the year number).
Mailshots to our members
These prices are for mailshots to our members included with an issue of the AISB Quarterly newsletter.
Type of Organisation Cost per item
Commercial £50
Charitable £25
These prices assume that the organisation will provide the items to be mailed. Items are mailed out with our quarterly newsletter. Any item over A4 size will be folded.
All mailing prices include postage, envelopes, labour and hire of the mailing list. If you would like to take advantage of any of the above opportunities, please contact our administrative office (adminXX at aisb dot org dot uk where XX are the last two digits of the year number).
Advertising within the Weekly Bulletin
Our weekly bulletin is emailed to all our members who have not opted out from it. It typically contains conference calls and job advertisements. This is a free service. If you wish to place an item in the bulletin please email the contents in plain text to bulletinXX at aisb dot org dot uk where XX are the last two digits of the year number.
We would really appreciate it if organisers of conferences and workshops advertised in the weekly bulletin were prepared to put up an AISB poster or place a few AISB flyers on a table somewhere. If you would be willing to do this please indicate as such when you send us your bulletin item.
Other Arrangements
We are happy to consider other advertising arrangements e.g., mailshots separate from AISBQ and reciprocal agreements where money is not charged. Please contact the editor of the quarterly about this in the first instance (aisbqXX at aisb dot org dot uk where XX are the last two digits of the year number).
The organisers of our annual convention are also frequently happy to include flyers and posters in convention packs. They should be contacted separately about possibilities (aisbXX at aisb dot org dot uk where XX are the last two digits of the year in which the convention will take place).
